BEHOLD YOUR KING: JESUS’ POWER OVER DARKNESS!

Matthew 9:27-31 Pastor DeWayne F. Davis Sr. 2-4-24

We live in a spiritually darkened world! I never thought I’d live to see our current world match the description of Isaiah 5:20.  Matthew’s Gospel proclaims that Jesus the Messiah King has come; exercising power over disease, demons, nature, the darkness of sin, and death. Two blind men are healed!

1. THE PREDICAMENT OF THE MEN – v. 27b

We are not told why these men were blind, but they overheard the crowds (Matthew 20:29-30a) and were in a bad predicament of not only being blind but found it difficult to get to Jesus. 

2. THE PLEADING OF THE MEN – v. 27c

Out of desperation they yelled together hoping Jesus would hear their pleas over the noisy crowd! It was their only chance! They would only get one shot!

a) Pardoning Cry - The Messiah would respond to those who would cry to Him for help!  Psalm 72:12-13 

b) Prophetic Cry – These men knew the prophecies concerning the Messiah. Everyone knew He would be the Son of David. Matthew 1:1;

2 Samuel 7:12-13; Isaiah 29:18 35:5–6.

3. THE PERSISTENCE OF THE MEN – v. 28a

The persistence of the blind men was seen as they kept following Jesus all the way into the house. He heard their cry and gave them a private audience. 

4. THE PROPOSAL OF JESUS TO THE MEN – v. 28b

Jesus proposed this question to test their faith in Him. Did they really believe that He was the Messiah or are they coming to Him for the miracle alone? 

John 6:26; This is the title “Kurios.” It is the full theological title of Jesus’ Deity. 

5. THE POWER OF JESUS ON THE MEN – v. 29-30a

STEP   1 v. 29a  Each man received a touch. Whenever you exercised faith in God, He comes near to touch your heart. 

STEP 2 v. 29b “Receive your healing because of your faith. It shall be done to you because of your faith in Me. In response to your faith.” 

6. THE PRONOUNCEMENT OF JESUS TO THE MEN – v. 30b-31

The Messianic Secret - Mark 5:43a Jesus’ popularity is rising! The more miracles He performs the news about Him is spreading like wildfire! He purposefully wanted to contain it. People are spiritually blind to the reality of God and need deliverance! Deuteronomy 28:29; Acts 26:18; John 3:3
